Quickstart

Add a disposable example secret and confirm it is saved.

Use a disposable workspace or environment for this walkthrough. You need a signed-in workspace owner or admin with permission to manage workspace settings. Readers can inspect metadata but cannot complete the write steps.

Add your first secret

  1. Open Secrets and select the intended workspace in the dashboard.
  2. If secrets are not enabled, choose Enable secrets. This creates the initial dev and prd environments.
  3. Open dev, then choose Add secret using the plus button.
  4. Enter the name DOCS_EXAMPLE_TOKEN, value example-only-not-a-credential, and type Token. Use these disposable values only.
  5. Choose Save. Confirm that the row remains after reloading the page. Its protected value is masked in the normal list.

Edits are staged until Save. Check any reported failures: a save can apply some changes while rejecting others. Correct the failed items and save again. Discard changes removes staged edits.

Read only what you need

Use the row's reveal control to view the example value, then hide it again. Copying a protected value also retrieves plaintext; treat clipboard contents as sensitive. Permissions explains who may reveal and export.

The secret's history shows versions and authorship. A restore creates a new current version from an earlier value; it does not make the earlier version current without a new write.

Clean up and connect

Delete DOCS_EXAMPLE_TOKEN and choose Save to remove the example. Do not use deletion as an undo mechanism for a real secret.

To connect another machine, create a dedicated token through Permissions and tokens, then follow Connect a machine or agent. You do not need to create a second local secrets store on that machine.
